This article aims to make a review of the French Ottoman studies. It opens with a discussion on the difficulties of defining the French school —in fact any academic school— on the bases of national languages and/or borders. Thereafter, it presents a history of the institutional development of the Turkish and Ottoman studies in France, and introduces French academic journals in this field. The article closes with an attempt for a detailed thematic bibliography which aims to draw attention to research fields emerged or developed especially during the last thirty years of the French Ottoman studies.
