Five Ottoman Scholars from the XV. and XVI. Centuries
In the present article, I will try to portray the main characteristics Ottoman legal mentality with special reference to some substantial figures that have crucial importance in the making of Ottoman legal understanding such as Molla Husrev, Ibn Kemal, Birgivi, Civizade, Halebi etc. In modern scholarship, we may point out two basic categories treating Ottoman scholars of law as active participants or supporters of state politics and as a learned class who made major contributions to the Islamic sciences. I am trying to point out a map of the modern studies and to interpret the diversified comments on the same groups
