Reference works constitute the basis of research on the Qur'an and Qur'anic exegesis. Despite the presence of many reference works on the Qur'an written in Turkish, no general evaluation of the field or a bibliography exists. This study classifies reference works as bibliographies, catalogs, biographies, indexes, dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, and electronic libraries. It then provides a short definition of each, introduces the related literature in the light of their salient features, presents new propositions for the expansion of the field, and finally provides a bibliography related to the subject. The conclusion is that despite the presence of large number of reference works in Turkish addressing the expectations of different audience, the need for an electronic database to collect them together is obvious.
