Chagatai Literature and Studies on Chagatai Literature
In this paper which is introduced Chagatai Literature, authors written in Chagatai Turkic and their literary works, Chagatai Literature is analyzed into three periods. There are some disagreements about Chagatai Literature which consists of literary works written in Chagatai Turkic, particularly, on defining boundaries of this literature. This disagreements focus on two points. The first is the view which accepts language materials belong to Central Asia Turkic after Chagatai Turkic and Old Uighur; the second is the view which defend Chagatai Turkic is not the continuation of Old Uighur. Thence, there are some disagreements about the beginning of Chagatai Turkic and its periods, too. Together with scientists who think that Chagatai Literature should be evaluated into a wide range, from XIIIrd century to XIXth century, there are some scientists who discuss that this literature involves the period from the beginning of XVth century to the end of XIXth century. According to this view, Chagatai Literature should be taking on three periods as 1. Pre-Classical Period, 2. Classical Period, 3. Post-Classical Period. The Divans written in Pre-Classical period are not advanced as the Divans written in Classical Period in terms of formation. Some well-known authors and poets in this period: Sekkâki, Lutfî, Atâyî, Yusuf Emîrî, Gedâyî. In this period which Chagatai Literature has attained classical literature level, authors and poets as Nevâyî, Hüseyin Baykara, Ubeydullah Han, Babür have written a lot of literary works. In the Post-Classical period, Uzbek Literature began to come into. In this period, there has not been any literary works such as Classical Divan. Well-known author in this period is Ebu'l-gazi Bahadýr Han. The studies on the literary works written in Chagatai Turkic are generally about language analysis, but in these studies, we can see transcription of texts besides language analyse. Thence, we added published texts to the bibliography, but did not add the articles directly on language analysis.
