An Evaluation Master and P.hD.Thesis on Old Literature
The first PhD thesis that was prepared in Turkey, and which concerned Turkish literature, was written by Ali Nihad Tarlan in 1922. Old Turkish Literature can therefore claim to be one of the oldest academic fields in Turkish universities, and since then, up until 2005, many BA, MA, PhD, Associate Professorship and Professorship theses have been prepared in Turkish universities. Following an introductory evaluation of such theses, this article focuses especially on MA and PhD theses, and evaluates their contents whilst providing a statistical profile of topic choices, supervisors? identities, the number of theses that were overseen by a given supervisor, and related chronological data. The article?s content and findings present the history of Old Turkish Literature through the theses, along with an academic and scientific map of the field and its future.
