The history of science is written in two ways in general. The first of these is on the general history of a science. In the second, the stages of that science in any country are analyzed. This study is in accordance with the format presented in the second way. Here, the period between 1940 and 2000 is discussed within the long history of geography, which has been divided into sub-periods. Geography both completed its institutionalization and experienced a rising period until the end of the 1960s. With the ascension period, the scientific level of the West has been reached and exemplary and original studies have been carried out. However, since 1960, the country has been dragged into socio-economic problems and in the meantime, military coups have been carried out at regular intervals. The Socioeconomic problems and military coups have also affected higher education academic reseaches. With these effects, towards the end of the 1960s, the period of rise came to an end, the Turkish geography closed with itself, broke with the world and missed many developments. The negativities were also reflected in the secondary education geography curriculum and frequent program changes were experienced. The period ended in 2000. Text analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study, the works written before on this subject were examined and the literature was reviewed.
