A Short History of Documentary Cinema in Turkey
This article focuses on the development of documentary cinema in Turkey starting
from the first non-fiction films made during the late Ottoman period to the
Republican period until 1970’s when television documentaries started to be
produced by TRT. The transition from military documentaries to civilian
documentaries has been examined. In this perspective, the documentary
movement, which is defined as “academic documentary” in this article, developed
by the Film Center of İstanbul University evaluated.
