Abstract The literature on contemporary Islamic movements is mostly about their classification. The studies that treat all movements together are incompetent. This study deals with general literature as well as separate monographs compiled in each of these movements. One can observe that there is a developed literature about some of the sects that requires further attention. Moreover, this study was at first concerned only with literature produced in Turkish, which proved to be insufficient. Since some movements could not be traced to any particular Turkish resources, one had to point to works produced in other languages. Hence this study early on acknowledges the fact that it is not comprehensive. Rather it has aimed at making strategic choices from among expanding literature in accordance with their contents.
