In this article, the civil transformation process of Turkish Documentary Cinema and the contribution of Istanbul University Film Center (IUFC) in this process has been evaluated by analyzing the documentary films produced by IUFC. IUFC produced 19 documentaries, which has common politic and thematic perspectives and also formative features, between 1954-1974. The documentary production model developed by IUFC and the documentaries produced within this model has been defined with a new term called “Academic Documentary”. This article assumes that the academic documentaries created a wave which might be named as Academic Documentary Movement. The aim is opening a discussion on these suggested terms by analyzing six documentaries produced by Mazhar Şevket İpşiroğlu and Sabahattin Eyuboğlu who are the frontiers of Academic Documentary movement.
