The academic studies of Bosniak historians about the Ottoman Bosnia well reflect the rich historical- cultural heritage of the Bosnian province. The main issues related to the Bosniak historiography of Ottoman Bosnia can be classified as the Islamization process in Bosnia and socio-cultural mobility based on this development, the Ottoman defters, their classification and analysis, the economic structure of Bosnia during the Ottoman Empire, the land tenure system and administrative-military organization, the Bosniak identity during the Ottoman era, and the effects of Ottoman Turkish language on Bosniak language. However, there is a strong need for new studies focusing on particularly the 17th and 18th centuries, since most available studies are based on the 15th and 16th centuries and concentrated on restricted topics. Moreover, methodologically speaking, this available literature follows a descriptive approach rather than providing strong analysis. It should also be noted that there is a strong Bosniak historiography tradition in Bosnia, shaped mainly by the Oriental Institute.
