In this study, a number of observations on the historical background of the nationalist discourse that emerged as the two opposing sides of Turkish-Arabhistoriography were presented. The stages of the development of the aforementioned discourse were analyzed and the role of orientalism in this process was investigated. Furthermore, in an attempt to overcome the nationalist discourse, it was aimed to acknowledge the value of two recently published works analyzing Egyptian historical sources by indicating the medium in which they emerged. In addition, the contradictions of the rejectionist mentality that the nationalist discourse developed against the structure upon which it is based were highlighted, and it was attempted to demonstrate the contribution of two recently published works on Egyptian historical sources in overcoming this mentality.
