Umûr-i Âmme Treatises Written in the Ottoman Era

The Ottoman tradition of knowledge and wisdom is a sophisticated one that has inherited the theoretical, philosophical and rhetorical acquirements of the Islamic thought as well as its juridical and spiritual (sûfî) elements. Within this tradition, a considerable number of treatises related to umûr-i âmme [ontological concepts] that present the theoretical and philosophical roots of the science of kalam were also produced. This paper endeavors to introduce the related eighty-six treatises registered in the manuscript libraries of Turkey by respecting the order in which umûr-i âmme topics were organized in later kalam works. Hence, the treatises on the division of existents come first, followed by those related to existence, essence and causality.
