An Overview of the History of Turkish Cinema
While examining the historical development process of Turkish cinema, Nijat
Özön’s book titled The History of Turkish Cinema has long been a reference book.
Film history books are written on the basis of Özön’s periodization of Turkish
cinema. In this article, we will try to reveal the history of Turkish cinema by
prioritizing the cinema industry and the establishment, development and
transformation periods of the industry, different from Özön’s generally accepted
periodization. Our aim in this is not to limit the history of cinema to prominent
directors and films, but to consider the sector and other elements that develop
and change depending on the sector as a part of history with a broader perspective.
