The presence of tekkes (sufi lodges), which are known as one of the principal educational institutions in the Islamic world, can be dated back to the first centuries. Appealing to the mystical, ethical and aesthetic dimensions of mankind, they have also directly influenced the development of the spiritual life. Dedicated men of heart who teach at the lodges are among the most influential figures in the formation of Islamic culture. The lodges have been organized in a systematic manner over the years and have answered the needs of individual regions by increasing their impact. Their main mission is the moral education of the believers and the elements of this education continue to appeal to the researchers.
