Why Metin Erksan and Lütfü Akad are the Directors whose Films are still Discussed when Directors and Movies Shaking their Time Passing by

This study examines the directors and films of Turkish cinema by focusing mainly
on Lütfi Akad, Metin Erksan, Yılmaz Güney, Halit Refiğ, Osman Seden, Memduh
Ün and Atıf Yılmaz, who were quite productive during the 1960s and 1970s. The
main argument of the study is that even if the films made by Güney, Refiğ, Seden
and Ün had a tremendous impact in their own time, they could not continue their
impact in the future; in contrary to, Lütfi Akad and Metin Erksan, whose films
continue to affect the discussions on cinema even today. The main reasons for the
permanence of Akad and Erksan films are that both of these directors have an
intellectual capacity; they focus on history and culture as well as having a
competence to interpret them.
